Mark Hamill In 'Star Wars: Episode VII'? Not Yet, Says Luke Skywalker, But 'Talking'

Don't get cocky: Mark Hamill tells Entertainment Tonight that while he's "interested" in reprising the role of Luke Skywalker in "Star Wars: Episode VII," nothing is set in stone.

"They're talking to us," Hamill told ETonline.com. "George [Lucas] wanted to know whether we'd be interested. He did say that if we didn't want to do it, they wouldn't cast another actor in our parts -– they would write us out. I can tell you right away that we haven't signed any contracts."

Lucas handed the franchise over to new Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy and director J.J. Abrams last year. "Little Miss Sunshine" screenwriter Michael Arndt is handling the script for "Episode VII," which is still in the development stage. The film is set for release in 2015.

Hamill had been aware of the big "Star Wars" return since August of 2012, when he had lunch with Lucas and "Star Wars" star Carrie Fisher. "When he said, 'We decided we’re going to do Episodes VII, VIII, and IX,' I was just gobsmacked," Hamill told EW.com last November.

The idea that Hamill, Fisher and Harrison Ford would return to the franchise is far from outlandish. Last week, it was rumored that Ford himself had signed on for the film, but according to EW.com writer Geoff Boucher, Ford's contract is still months away from being completed.
